A residential burglary was stopped while in progress Friday night by a vigilant crowbar-carrying Swatara Township resident.

Pennsylvania State Police said they responded Friday evening shortly before 8:00 p.m. to the 2300 block of Quarry Road in relation to an active burglary. While en route, the intended victim related to troopers that the actor was still on the premises.

Upon arrival, troopers took Grayson Weidman, a 24-year-old Shoemakersville man, into custody without further incident.

According to the PSP release, the Swatara Township man related to troopers that he had observed Weidman parking his vehicle besides a detached garage on the premises and then exiting the vehicle wearing gloves and a bandana covering his face. According to the statement, after the man saw Weidman walk behind the garage, he grabbed a crowbar on his way to confront the intruder.

State Police said that Weidman was located in hiding near the back entrance to the garage at which point the man told Weidman to stay put while he called police. Weidman instead attempted to flee and enter the vehicle in which he had arrived, but the Swatara Township man smashed the door handles with the crowbar, inciting an unidentified passenger in Weidman’s vehicle to jump into the driver’s seat and flee the scene.

According to the release, Weidman repeatedly approached the victim and his wife while they waited for police to arrive. The Swatara Township man was said to have struck Weidman in self-defense after he continued to advance.

Weidman was said to have been carrying on his person a bandana, gloves, a flashlight, and unidentified controlled substances.

Weidman is currently at Lebanon County Correctional Facility having been unable to post bail, set at $25,000. He faces a second-degree felony charge of attempted burglary, a third-degree felony charge of attempted criminal trespassing, two misdemeanor charges of possessing a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge for loitering and prowling at night time.
