“Jesus was baptized at the start of his ministry, showing believers how to follow him,” said Pastor Ryan Clift of Rooted Faith Church. “Before ascending to heaven, he called his followers to make disciples and baptize them. That invitation still stands.”
Rooted Faith Church will host an open baptism gathering – with live worship music – on Friday, August 28 at 6 p.m. at the Quentin Fireman’s Fairground, 30 Alden Lane, Lebanon, PA.
“God designed us for connection and spiritual growth – both of which thrive in community,” said Clift. “Baptism is part of that. While the Jordan River isn’t in Quentin, the water is ready, and so are we.”
An invitation, not a barrier
Clift noted that many people feel disqualified before they ever begin. “We hear it all the time: ‘I’m not ready,’ ‘I don’t know enough,’ or ‘I don’t measure up.’ That mindset keeps people on the outside.”
“But Jesus didn’t ask for credentials,” added Paul Fowle, Executive Pastor, Rooted Faith. “He invited people to follow him – just as they were. Faith isn’t something you earn first; it’s something you step into.”
Clift was direct: “I’m done being a gatekeeper – of church, of grace, or of salvation. The gospel isn’t an argument to win; it’s a person to believe in. When we understand that, we stop filtering people out and start inviting them in.”
Fowle added that the church was always meant to function as a connected body. “We’re designed for relationship—with God and with each other. In community, we find support, accountability, and growth. Each person brings something vital.”
A step worth taking
“Baptism is where belief steps into the light,” said Clift. “It’s not about having everything figured out. It’s about saying yes to following Christ.”
Rooted Faith welcomes anyone ready to take that step – or simply learn more – to attend the August 28 gathering.
“No prerequisites. No gatekeeping,” said Fowle. “Just come.”
