South Lebanon Township’s newest fire truck nears service

A new piece of equipment will soon be joining South Lebanon Township’s firefighting fleet.

While not on the South Lebanon Township supervisors’ official meeting agenda, the board got a first look at the South Lebanon Fire Department truck before the start of Tuesday’s meeting. 

The truck was originally purchased in December 2025 and has been undergoing outfitting to ensure it has all of the necessary equipment. 

Deputy fire chief Billy Weikel says they expect the truck to be in service within the coming weeks. He thanked the supervisors and township for the support they have shown to the fire department. 

During the agenda portion of the meeting, a public hearing was held for a Verizon franchise agreement, which would expand their television offering to include FiOS. 

Resident Jim Sak raised concerns about previous times contractors hired through Verizon had completed work near his home. 

“They came on our property and we didn’t even know it, with their machine then started going,” said Sak. He also raised concerns about seeing workers throw their food garbage into the holes they were digging and then cover it up. 

Supervisors approved the agreement. 

Supervisors then tabled the matter of a boundary agreement with North Cornwall Township, citing not having all the documentation needed. 

In other business, supervisors: 

• Approved the use of fire police for First Baptist Church 5K on Oct. 17 .
• Approved increasing the administrative travel reimbursement rate to 76 cents per mile, aligning it with the IRS mileage rate.
• Heard that Trick or Treat will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The South Lebanon Township Supervisors’ next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.
