The North Cornwall Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the adoption of a traffic ordinance following its public hearing at the Sept. 1 meeting.
Solicitor Amy Leonard said amendments in the ordinance include establishing speed limits of 25 mph on certain roads or portions of roads, most of which are within the North Cornwall Commons area. Speed limits of 40 mph have been set in the ordinance for portions of Meadow Lane, North Cornwall Road, and Spangler Road. Additionally, a 35-mph speed limit was set for a portion of Cornwall Road.
“Some of these were areas that had not had a speed limit established in the past, either new roads or what I’ll call sort of agricultural roads that over time have clearly shown a need for an established speed limit,” said Leonard.
The ordinance also establishes stop intersections within Fox Bend and the North Cornwall Commons area. Several vehicle weight limits for certain streets and bridges that had been put in place by a separate ordinance were also incorporated into the new ordinance.
During public comment for the ordinance, a resident suggested limiting the use of brake retarders, commonly referred to as Jake brakes, within the township. Chairman Mike Wahmann said PennDOT has the jurisdiction on that.
In other news, supervisors:
- Approved a payment of $56,776.54 and the final payment request of $190,881.31 to JEV Construction for the Dairy Road Pump Station.
- Approved two waiver requests for Dairy Queen, 2600 W. Cumberland St., pertaining to sign spacing requirements and placement.
- Approved an operations and maintenance agreement with Dauphin County-based Act One & Associates for the Dairy Road Pump Station.
- Denied a handicapped parking application for 225 S. 16th St. and approved a handicapped parking application for 1620 Chestnut St.
- Approved a Springwood Development Partners cooperation agreement in regards to a $500,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant contract, which was also approved. Wahmann explained the grant applications require approval and agreement by a local municipal government, and they agreed to be the sponsor.
North Cornwall Township supervisors meet next at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 at 330 S. 18th St.
