Kenneth D. Gechter Sr., “Pop,” 80, of Womelsdorf, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Kenny was the devoted husband of Lorraine F. (Dombroski) Gechter. Together, they celebrated 56 years of marriage on April 25, 2026.
Born in St. Lawrence on June 16, 1946, Kenny was the son of the late George and Elsie Mae (Hartman) Gechter.
Kenny was a hardworking man who spent his life doing what he loved: farming. He worked on several farms throughout his career and took great pride in an honest day’s work. Farming was more than a job to Kenny; it was truly a part of who he was. He also enjoyed woodworking and working with tools and could often be found using his hands to build, repair, or create something.
Above all, Pop loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose quiet strength, strong work ethic, and steady presence will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine, Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Lorraine Wartenluft, of Wernersville, Carrie Brightbill, of Womelsdorf, and Kendra Smith, partner of Mark Wesner, of Newmanstown; son, Kenneth Gechter Jr., husband of Janelle, of Womelsdorf; grandchildren, Sabrina, Daniel, Sara, Allison, Katelyn, Kamella, Abigail, Mason, Garth Jr., and Kennadee Mae; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his brother, George Gechter.
Services will be private.
Grose Funeral Home Inc., Myerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 2595 Interstate Dr., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
Though our hearts are saddened by his loss, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind and in the example he set through his love, strength, and dedication to his family.
