Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to the second season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley “Wing Wars.” This season will feature four locations fighting to be declared the winner of Best Wing in The Valley.

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including: wing sauce/rub flavor, size of wing, how they’re cooked, presentation, and critic impression.

For this review, the critic team got some workday wings from a spot along Route 72 between Ebenezer and Jonestown, Frogs Hollow Restaurant & Tavern.

This standalone restaurant offers a full menu and has wing specials on Sunday ($0.90 wings), Wednesday ($0.75 wings), and an occasional All-You-Can-Eat wing night for $18. They do have an online ordering platform in which you can request your wings prepared various ways, from extra sauce to extra crispy.

Today we ordered a dozen wings in sweet heat BBQ ($12), a half dozen in Frog rub ($6.50), and a half dozen in garlic & parmesan. Dipping sauce is included; celery is an extra $0.50.

The traditional wings were nicely size and came generously tossed in the sauce. The wings were fried well and kept hot until I got back to my office. Inside the wings were meaty and juicy.

The Frog rub was too salty for our taste. We couldn’t taste what else was in the rub. The sweet heat BBQ was more a sweet BBQ and a flavor that I really enjoyed. The garlic & parm was a nice creamy sauce. We think this would be very good if you got it mixed with hot sauce as well.

Our final impression:

  • Meaty wing, fried well.
  • Nice sauce selection, but a salty rub.
  • Plenty of wing night specials to take advantage of.

Be on the lookout as we have one more stop to go in Season 2, The Wetlands. After which we will announce our winner for this season!
