LebTown always strive to “make the extra call” during our reporting.

This editorial follows up my previous ones about LebTown’s core value, optimize for trust, and our related value, seek truth and report it. These editorials come as part of LebTown’s Countywide Campaign, an ambitious effort to reach 1,000 active members by the time our fifth birthday rolls around in April.

Here’s why making the extra call is so important to us, and how that value serves us in multiple ways.

For many stories we cover, LebTown will be giving members of the public their first experiences with a journalist. The shoe leather we put into reporting our stories pays off in multiple ways – it leads to better stories, and it sows the seeds of trust in the media across the county.

The concept of making the extra call is also very important as LebTown produces accountability journalism in a tight-knit community.

We should never publish a story about a person, company, or group without making multiple attempts to seek their comment, and in almost no circumstances would we expect the subject of a story to be surprised by seeing it published on LebTown.

In essence, our reporting aims to be steady, deliberate, and considerate.

For more on how we conduct our reporting, read our guide on what to expect from an interview with LebTown.
