Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to the third season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley “Wing Wars.” Four entrants from across the Valley will compete, bracket style, to be declared the winner of Best Wing in The Valley.

(In case you missed it, the winner of Season One was the Red-Headed League, which has since closed, and the winner of Season Two was the Gin Mill.)

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including: wing sauce/rub flavor, size of wing, how they’re cooked, presentation, and critic impression.

Our third stop is in the village of Schaefferstown. The Franklin House Tavern is located at the intersection of state routes 419 and 897.

The Franklin House Tavern offers traditional and boneless wings with a few select sauce options. They also have a rotating feature wing sauce flavor.

Tonight, we had two 10-piece orders of the house made sweet fire sauce and the featured wing flavor, which today was stinging honey garlic. Each order is $14.99.

The wings are large with sauce laid over top. These wings are crisp enough on the outside. The sweet fire sauce comes off as sweet at first, but when you are midway through, the heat kicks in.

The dipping sauces are made in house, and added to the wing enjoyment, especially the blue cheese.

Our final impression:

  • A large crispy wing.
  • Limited flavor options.
  • A rotating wing sauce flavor, one sauce is made in house.
  • They make their own ranch and blue cheese for dipping.

We have one more location to try, after which we will announce the winner.
