The South Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to pass on a 6 percent price increase to the around 200 township residents hooked up to Mount Gretna’s sewer system.

The Mount Gretna Sewer Authority increased rates by 6 percent in December. Supervisors expressed frustration as, in earlier conversations with the sewer authority, they had been told a rate increase was unlikely for this year.

Quarterly bills, currently averaging about $179, will increase to around $190 with the rate increase.

Supervisors also considered legislation that would charge those residents connected to Mount Gretna sewers annually, added onto their real estate taxes, rather than quarterly.

The board unanimously opted to proceed with intent to pass the change, which would take effect in 2024, with hopes of hearing from residents before it is formally adopted.

The legislation will be drafted and advertised prior to taking effect. Letters will also be sent to the residents affected.

Supervisors also unanimously agreed to requested Fire Board bylaw and constitution updates. The changes mostly included allowing the Fire Board to elect alternates and formally changing the days and times the board meets.

In other news, the board:

  • Listened to a presentation from the Lebanon Valley Conservancy about their endeavors in the county.
  • Unanimously approved the stormwater plan for the planned Weis production site at 2400 S. Forge Road. The site plan includes two poultry houses, a 2,500-square-foot storage building, and a 12,000-square-foot garage.
  • Asked for letters of interest for a vacancy in the Municipal Sewer Authority.
  • Unanimously approved Ag Security Resolution 09-2023 for the preservation of 219 Long Road.
  • Heard reports from the township manager, police department, and fire companies.
  • Unanimously approved minutes from the Jan. 3 reorganization (PDF) and routine (PDF) meetings.
  • Unanimously approved bill and payroll lists.

South Londonderry Township supervisors meet at 27 W. Market St. on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be held March 14. These meetings are open to the public and do not require registration.
