MVP Myerstown Night at the Reading Fightinโ Phils returns on Friday, August 16.
A Community Tradition started in 2018, with the 250th Anniversary of Myerstown: Thousands of locals celebrated a great night of community spirit by gathering at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA, to enjoy a great night of baseball and special recognition of our beloved Myerstown.
Game time for this yearโs 5th Anniversary clash between the โFightinโsโ and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats is on Friday, August 16, at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to arrive early for the pre-game ceremony. The National Anthem and the first pitches will all have a Myerstown flavor.
As part of the 2018 festivities, the team recognized a Myerstown Veteran, Bob Brocklehurst. Bob was a 98-year-old WWII Combat pilot who flew stunts in a plane to draw attention to Myerstownโs 250th Anniversary year. Myerstown Flight 250 drew national attention!
The tradition continues this year, with another veteran being recognized. He is US Army Vietnam Veteran Ralph B. Gerhart, Jr. Gerhart served for three years in the late 1960s and won numerous medals and awards. Gerhart recently served as Commandant of the Myerstown VFW.
Also returning, 90-year-old Myerstown resident Jack Cantwell will perform the National Anthem. Jack served in Korea and Japan in the US Army Security Agency in the mid-1950s.
