St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Lebanon is pleased to host the Rev. Prof. Dr. David P. Gushee for a free one-day workshop to explore the ethics of Jesus and potential implications on how Christians cast their vote in 2024.
Specific topics covered will include Christian nationalism, LGBTQ+ inclusion in the church, climate change, gun violence, and truth and truthfulness. The event will be held in the church’s parish hall auditorium from 2:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
“Unfortunately, the ‘sound bites’ of modern political and religious discourse represent only a shallow understanding of scripture and how it applies to modern social concerns,” says the Rev. Dr. David Zwifka, rector of St. Luke’s. “We’re excited for Dr. Gushee to lead us in a deep-dive of how Jesus’s words and actions should inform our civic viewpoint.”
A light supper will be served as part of the workshop. Dr. Gushee will also preach at St. Luke’s on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services.
For more information or to register for this event, readers are asked to visit the church website at www.stlukeslebanon.org/gushee. Questions may be directed to rector@stlukeslebanon.org.
