The Penn State Extension Master Watershed Stewards will host Water Ways on Wheels, an informative bike tour of the Swatara Rail Trail, on Saturday, Oct. 19.
This event is an exclusive tour of the unpaved Swatara Rail Trail that will offer participants 21 and older a chance to learn about watershed features and the history of the rail and canal.
The 11-mile tour will begin at 11 a.m. at the Swopes Valley Trailhead off Bear Hole Trail Road in Pine Grove and is expected to take no more than three hours. That includes stops along the way and a lunch break at Bordner Cabin.
The ride will include a ride leader and a ride sweeper patrolling the event for safety. Helmets are required. Participants should bring their own bikes and bike helmets and dress appropriately for the weather.
When the party returns to the trailhead, participants can enjoy some of Lancaster County’s finest snack items while hearing a summary of information learned along the way.
Cost to participate is $10. Reservations can be made online.
Water Ways on Wheels is part of the Penn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward Program, which supports communities in their efforts to protect and restore natural resources. This program offers educational and outreach opportunities to help participants learn about the importance of water conservation and stewardship.
