North Cornwall Township supervisors heard a presentation from Wilson Associates on the 22nd Street bridge replacement at its meeting Oct. 1.

PennDOT is seeking feedback on the project, which will realign 22nd Street to run continuously (shifting the bridge downstream around 150 feet) with a cross intersection at Chestnut Street.

One attendee asked for more details on the township’s agreement to pay for improvements to the Motorcycle Club in exchange for the right-of-way for the project. However, the plans for the improvements have not yet been ironed out, the township reported.

Following the plan display, representatives of Wilson Associates left visualizations with the township so residents could access them while visiting the township building.

The wider bridge will also include a 10-foot pedestrian access, planned eventually to connect to the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail.

Rail Trail board member Todd Dissinger lauded the project on Tuesday, saying that “this is gonna be wonderful for the trail users.”

While the township has had its eye on the bridge for 25 years, the replacement project has been in the works since 2018, said chairman Mike Wahmann.

Wahmann said that the township initially considered constructing a separate pedestrian bridge, but — with concerns about the existing bridge’s crash rate, limited sight distance, geometric deficiencies for truck turns, and flooding issues — “the whole project evolved” into what was presented Tuesday.

The project is in collaboration with both PennDOT and Lebanon County, with an expected start in early 2026 and two-year completion timeframe.

While construction is ongoing, pedestrians will still have access to the current bridge, while vehicles will be detoured on SR 422, 16th Street, and Chestnut Street.

More information about the plan is available on PennDOT’s website, where residents can also submit feedback.

In other news, the board:

Supervisors Mike Wahmann and William Yeagley convene Tuesday.
  • Unanimously agreed to remove the “except right turn” on the stop sign for southbound West Oak Street traffic at the intersection of Meadow Lane and West Oak. This comes as the township received a complaint about the intersection.
  • Reviewed the 2025 emergency responders budget, including discussion of the fire department’s incentive program which will be further discussed in a later meeting.
  • Discussed the parks and recreation and state fund portion of the 2025 draft budget.
  • Unanimously approved snow plowing agrreements
  • Unanimously agreed to the Dairy Road Pump Station construction administration proposal.
