Penn State Extension is offering in-person and virtual options for its annual “Crops Conferences,” a program for people interested in best practices and the latest research on crop management issues.
The program will be available in two formats: a daylong, in-person event and a two-afternoon virtual event. Attendees for each conference can earn pesticide applicator, nutrient management and certified crop adviser credits.
The in-person seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Lebanon Valley Exposition Center, 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon. Cost is $10 per person.
The event will offer free respirator fit testing for the first 25 participants who opt in during registration, according to the program brochure.
The virtual conference will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, March 10 and 12.
“This a premiere event for growers to maintain compliance with state and federal farm related laws and regulations,” Del Voight, senior educator with Penn State Extension’s field and forage crops team, said in an email to LebTown. “It also includes updates on production as well as a chance for our FFA and 4H youth to learn more about crop production in our area.”
The event, according to a release, is designed for field and forage crop producers, pesticide applicators, and crop consultants. Sessions will cover:
- Latest techniques in nutrient and pesticide management, including drone applications and precision nutrient practices.
- Strategies for identifying and managing weeds, pests and soil health concerns.
- Advances in soybean and forage crop production and protection.
- Practical steps for pesticide safety, exposure reduction and spill preparedness.
- Insights from recent agronomic research to enhance crop yield and environmental sustainability.
Organizers noted that credits are pending final approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture or the Pennsylvania Certified Crop Adviser Program.
Attendees must register for the Lebanon conference by 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. The registration deadline for the live webinars is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 9.
More information about the in-person and virtual conferences is available online at extension.psu.edu/crop-conferences-2025, including online registration, a detailed agenda, and information for those interested in sponsoring these events or other crop conferences.
