Robert Emmett Weiss, 86, of Myerstown, PA, died October 8, 2021, at his residence.
He was the husband of Barbara J. (Frimmel) Weiss. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on May 18, 2021.
Born in Bronx, NY, on July 12, 1935, he was the son of the late William J. and Mary Elizabeth (Reardon) Weiss. Bob received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1961 from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ, where he was a news and sports editor of the school newspaper for three years. He was a 1952 graduate of Haverstraw High School, Haverstraw, NY. Bob worked as a journalist for 12 years with Newsday, Long Island, NY; the Manchester (CT) Journal-Inquirer, and other news organizations. He also worked for more than 25 years in corporate communications, principally with the Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies in Connecticut.
Mr. Weiss served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. After completing basic training (Ft. Dix, NJ) and a course at the Army Information School (Ft. Slocum, NY), he served as a public information specialist, in Europe.
Bob enjoyed reading (especially history), the Arts, and traveling with Barbara throughout the U.S. and Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand. He was an avid NY Giants football fan and a NY Mets baseball fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen, wife of Richard Schwartz, of Woolwich, ME; sons, Eric Weiss, husband of Renee, of Tolland, CT, and Richard Weiss, husband of Susan, of Lebanon, PA; grandchildren, Lydia, Nathanael, Victoria, Nicholas, and Daniel; cousins, Jerry Kabat, and Nan Evanega.
Bob was preceded in death by his dear cousin, Mary Anne Babich, who beat him to heaven, by less than 24 hours.
A public viewing will he held Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Grose Funeral Home, Inc, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, PA 17067. Private interment will be held in the Cemetery of the Gate of Heaven, Hawthorne, NY.
