Following up August’s exhibit of Lancaster artist Stew Bradley, the Arts Council is gearing up for the September First Friday, which will take place next week September 7th in the group’s space at 770 Cumberland.

The exhibition will stay installed in the Arts Council gallery through the month.

Artist Michaelanne Helms curated the event, featuring 14 artists total including herself. Helms writes that the exhibition comes from approaching her 40th birthday and wishing to weave the evolving strands of her life (motherhood, marriage, ministry) into whole cloth.

I called us all to create around this theme: Bearing Time. I found myself returning again and again to the 90th Psalm, with its themes of time, transition, and eternity. These yearnings, further shaped by the inspiration of friends and collaborators, forced into reality by tenacious encouragement, became embodied in this collection of work.

Helms hails from West Virginia and currently lives in Lebanon, where she is a wife and mother of two young boys.

The exhibition has taken place once before at the Museum of Art and Peace in Philadelphia.

The Lebanon Arts Council supports the arts in town through the exhibition series at its galleries, promoting area cultural events, coordinating First Friday Art Walks, offering classes to the community, and hosting arts in inexpensive studio rentals.

Free parking will be available downtown at 9th & Cumberland as well as the 7th & Willow HACC parking lot.
