Pennsylvania State Police shared details about an incident involving multiple cars that closed Route 322 just after midnight Monday.
The crash occurred when a 29 year old Ashland, PA man lost control of his 2001 Subaru Legacy as it was traveling west on 322 about half a mile from Route 241.
The man attempted to correct the slide off the roadway, but was unsuccessful, and the car struck a Met-Ed utility pole on the north side of the roadway.
The impact caused the utility pole to snap in multiple places, causing the over-head wires to become lowered.
Five to ten minutes after the initial impact, a PennDOT plow truck came through the area and struck the low hanging wires, causing a second utility pole to be snapped and more overhead wires to be downed on the roadway.
A third snafu occurred when an unidentified dark SUV drove past both previous crashes and struck a piece of downed utility pole.
The man was carrying three passengers in his car. Despite none of the occupants wearing seatbelts at the time of impact, all made it out without any injuries. The man was issued a citation for failure to drive vehicle at safe speeds. The occupants were a 54 year old Ashland man, a 19 year old Annville man, and a 26 year old Palmyra woman.
The Subaru was towed from the scene by Zimmey’s Towing. 322 was closed for the remainder of the night and into the daytime hours of February 12.
Pennsylvania State Police were assisted at the scene by Cleona Fire Police, Met-Ed, PennDOT, and Zimmey’s Towing.
