A large tree that split along the 400 block of S. 14th Street has been identified as the cause of this morning’s Met-Ed power outage in Lebanon and North Cornwall Township.

What was described by Met-Ed as a “tree-sized” piece of tree fell onto a power distribution line, breaking the top of the pole and pulling down the cross arm, according to the company spokesperson.

The wire then had to be ground prior to tree removal and pole repair.

At its peak, the outage affected about 1,200 customers, or approximately 2% of Met-Ed’s customers in Lebanon County. Most affected customers (~750) were in North Cornwall Township. The outage was said to have begun around 6:30am today.

Met-Ed is one of several companies operated by FirstEnergy in Pennsylvania. At present, FirstEnergyโ€™s Storm Center shows fewer than 5 customers as currently affected by outages in Lebanon County.
