Lebanon Valley College worked with redistricting education program Draw the Lines PA and redistricting reform group Fair Districts PA to hold a “mapathon” on campus in late September.
The event, held Thursday September 26 at LVC, was held to educate and involve youth in redistricting. Draw the Lines PA’s chief of staff Justin Villere discussed “starter maps” of 17 congressional districts with 36 participants, including County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz.

After learning about redistricting, participants were invited to use Draw the Lines PA’s software to design district maps.
Draw the Lines holds a biannual redistricting contest that awards state and regional winners with cash prizes. Entries are also divided between the Adult, Higher Education, and Youth/Secondary divisions.
In last spring’s competition, the Lebanon Six team received an honorable mention in the competitions Adult division for its environmentally motivated redistricting.
Draw the Lines is backed by the Committee of Seventy, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit group, which seeks to educate and involve voters in the redistricting process.
