The department was made aware of a driveway paving scam that occurred in a rural area of Heidelberg Township around 1 PM Tuesday. A male, driving an older model believed to be a Nissan or Toyota pick-up truck, gray in color, with a low camper top and some junk signs on the side, approached the home of an elderly widow and wanted to “seal coat” her driveway for $650.00. The woman’s nephew confronted the subject and told him $650.00 was a ridiculous price to spray “used motor oil” on the driveway. The nephew asked the man for a business card with the names of the last two addresses in Robesonia where he claimed to have sealed the driveways. The man replied he did not have time for that, got back in his truck and left. The man is described as having darker skin but not black or Hispanic, approx. 45-50 years of age, 5’8″, 150 pounds, wearing a denim shirt. During the spring and at this time of year is when the driveway seal coating scams generally occur.
