Historic Schaefferstown, Inc. (HSI) has announced its winter class list.
HSI is a nonprofit focused on the the culture and history of Pennsylvania Germans (or Pennsylvania Dutch) in Schaefferstown and surrounding areas. In addition to events held at various points throughout the year, HSI also offers classes based on traditional Pennsylvania German skills.
All four classes offered are on Saturdays, beginning at 9 a.m. with varying end times. The classes will be held in the Brendle Museum basement (111 N. Market St., Schaefferstown).
Jan. 18: Rug Hooking—choice between Patriotic or Spring Flowers
Rug hooking is a traditional way to make a rug by pulling loops of yarn or fabric through an underlying base made of stiff material like burlap.

Feb. 1: Sgraffito Redware
Sgraffito is a technique where various layers of color are glazed or pasted on pottery and then scratched off to create images, patterns, and textures.

Needle tatting is a technique to make rings, embroidery, and other materials using a tatting needle.

March 7: Bird With Tulips Theorem Stenciling
Theorem painting, or theorem stenciling, is the technique of making and using stencils to create drawings or art.
