Pennsylvania State Police announced in a press release early Monday, Nov. 8, that Andrew J. Dzwonchyk, a 40-year-old Jonestown man, was killed by state troopers during an incident Sunday, Nov. 7, in Union Township.

PSP said that two troopers were dispatched Nov. 7 at 10:42 p.m. for a Protection from Abuse (PFA) violation on the 00 block of Ridge Road in Union Township.

According to the release, troopers were on site when Dzwonchyk returned in a vehicle. PSP said that troopers attempted to arrest Dzwonchyk, but he resisted and remained in the driver’s seat.

PSP said that Dzwonchyk drove forward and in reverse while one trooper was partially in the vehicle, causing the trooper to be dragged. According to the release, following unsuccessful attempts to taser Dzwonchyk, a trooper then transitioned to a firearm and discharged it into Dzwonchyk.

PSP said that first aid was given to Dzwonchyk by both troopers, and EMS also responded, but Dzwonchyk was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lebanon County Coroner’s office.

A press conference was held mid-morning Monday by the Lebanon County District Attorney’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police, which are both investigating the shooting. The trooper who shot Dzwonchyk has been placed on administrative leave while investigations are pending.
