Richard W. Powell, of Palmyra, will be a judge in the upcoming 146th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The show will be held on Jan. 26, 2022, and will be presented by Purina Pro Plan in New York City.
Powell will judge the Terrier Group, and the winner of this group will advance to the Best in Show competition.

The dog show is not a new arena for Powell. He has a lifetime’s experience with purebred dogs, starting with English cocker spaniels, then breeding and showing English setters in England, according to a press release from the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Because Powell’s long-term dream was to breed and show terriers, he gained some experience with top handlers in California before embarking on his own terrier journey. He purchased a small farm and kennel with his wife, Sue, and bred and showed many terriers including Flatford and Hapitails Welsh terriers.
Powell has previously judged numerous other national specialties. He’s judged terrier specialties abroad in South America, England, and Europe, and has received approval to judge Best in Show, working and hound breeds, toy, terrier, and sporting groups.
