The Philadelphia Flyers walked into the Wells Fargo Center for their game Thursday, March 3, in high style – high school style, that is.
Players arrived for the game against the Minnesota Wild wearing high school jerseys to give a shoutout to the teams competing in the 2022 Flyers Cup Scholastic Championships.
Flyers center Gerry Mayhew sported a Palmyra jersey, a great look given the near-match with the Flyers’ own shade of orange. Mayhew, a Michigan native, was signed by Philadelphia in July 2021.
The promotion was organized by Rob Baer, the Flyers’ director of youth and amateur hockey programs, who also serves as tournament director for the Flyers Cup.
Palmyra Cougars Ice Hockey will face off against Delaware County’s Strath Haven High School Monday, March 7, at 8:45 p.m. as part of the Flyers Cup A Finals. The game will be live-streamed on the tournament’s YouTube channel.
