The Pennsylvania State Police Troop L barracks have opened up applications for Camp Cadet, an annual police-oriented week-long summer camp for young residents of Berks, Lebanon, and Schuylkill counties.
The camp will run August 14 to August 20 at Camp Manatawny in Douglassville and is open to boys and girls ages 12 through 15.
Camp Cadet aims to provide youth with a positive growth experience using a framework of a “mini” police academy, with campers receiving instruction in topics like safety, physical training, and technical policing skills. Law enforcement professionals will give presentations on specific policing roles, such as performing on a bomb squad, a K-9 unit, an aviation unit, computer crimes, and more.
Days at Camp Cadet begin with reveille and end with retreat formation. Non-law enforcement experiences can include learning about water rescue and fire service, as well as getting to try your more traditional summer camp activities, like marksmanship, swimming, horseback riding, volleyball, and kickball.
The cost of the camp is $140, payable upon acceptance. Find the application as well as more information about the camp here. There is a $10 fee to apply.
