Last week, the Cornwall Iron Furnace drew our attention to an 1860 map of Lebanon County available through the Library of Congress.
The map was shared as a “Throwback Thursday” post on the Cornwall Iron Furnace’s Facebook page.
“You can see that it identifies land owners and shows the location of townships, waterways, roads, railroads, canals, towns, etc.,” said the post. “There are even images of important buildings such as the North Lebanon Furnaces, the county court house, and the Swatara Collegiate Institute.”
The map was created by map lithographer Henry F. Bridgens, who was born in England around 1824 and had immigrated to the United States by 1850, according to a biography by The Library Company of Philadelphia.
