Visit Lebanon Valley and Memorial Lake State Park invite the public to celebrate Earth Day with a fishing lesson and stream study on Saturday, April 22.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., participants can learn how to rig a line, bait a hook, and cast a rod, as well as where and when to fish in Pennsylvania. Free fishing with instruction and equipment will be provided, and loaner rods will be available, but participants are encouraged to register ahead on the DCNR Calendar of Events to guarantee a spot.
In addition to learning how to fish, participants who are lucky enough to catch a fish will have the opportunity to learn about proper removal, handling, and release. Instructors will be available to provide guidance and answer questions.
The event will also include information for those interested in fish anatomy and identification.
A Pennsylvania fishing license is not required for this event, as it is an educational program approved by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
In addition to fishing, the event will include a stream study of the lake’s feeding stream. Participants are asked to bring a pair of old shoes for walking in the water.
For more information and to register for a spot, visit the DCNR website. For additional resources, visit the fishing page on the Visit Lebanon Valley website.
