The Tabernacle at Mt. Gretna is a uniquely beautiful venue with seating for 700 people, and the best part is that it’s right in your own backyard. It is home to Mt. Gretna Summer Concerts, a non-profit entertainment series providing affordable live entertainment for all.
This summer’s schedule gets underway on Memorial Day weekend with a special benefit show to raise money for improvements to the Tabernacle itself. The show is a brand new musical comedy entitled Strictly Platonic and tells the story of a man looking to trade in his ladies’ man image to find the perfect woman and settle down. However, when he meets Annie and Vicki, his image of perfection is turned upside down.
Strictly Platonic

The show premiered as a play at Hedgerow Theatre in 2013 to rave reviews and its author, Larry McKenna, turned it into a musical during the pandemic. He is excited to bring the premiere to the Tabernacle this May. He states, “Mt. Gretna is my favorite place on the planet and the Tabernacle is my favorite building; so, it makes perfect sense to premiere the show there.” McKenna will serve as producer and director for this production. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com or you can go to www.MtGretnaSummerConcerts.org.
This will be McKenna’s second musical comedy he is bringing to Mt. Gretna. His show Burt & Me was a huge hit at Gretna Theatre in 2012. He wrote the book and collaborated with Burt Bacharach and the estate of Hal David to obtain the rights to 20 of their classic songs. The show went on to play at theaters all across the country in years to follow.
So, travel back in time to this magical hamlet just down the road from Lebanon to take in some wonderful music under the trees of beautiful Mt. Gretna. Rain or shine, we have you covered.
