Three Lebanon Valley College students have been awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year, while another has been named an alternate.

Over the past eight years, 17 LVC students and alumni have been named Fulbright finalists.

Dr. Philip Benesch, chair of social sciences at LVC, announced that Hannah Alvarnaz, Trevor Hamilton, and Maggie Kergick are the newest Fulbright finalists, while Ariana Genna has been named an alternate.

Alvarnaz, Hamilton, and Genna are graduating seniors, while Kergick is a 2019 graduate.

Kergick, an English major and summa cum laude graduate, will be an English teaching assistant in the Slovak Republic for the 2023-24 academic year.

Hamilton, a political science and global studies double major, will serve as an English teaching assistant in the Republic of North Macedonia during the same period.

Alvarnaz, also a political science and global studies double major, was selected for an Open Study/Research Award in the Republic of Kosovo but has declined the award to pursue other opportunities.

Genna, a political science and social justice & civic engagement double major, was chosen as a Fulbright/America for Bulgaria Foundation English Teaching Assistant Award Alternate.

The Fulbright Program, established over 75 years ago, aims to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. Fulbright alumni have made significant contributions to their communities and the world, including 41 heads of state or government, 62 Nobel Laureates, and 89 Pulitzer Prize winners.
