Cedar Crest High School graduating senior Sophia Medzoyan has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Harmonia Music Association.

Medzoyan, a talented clarinetist trained by private instructor Wayne Fox, was selected after a competitive audition process.

The scholarship selection required applicants to be seniors from a Lebanon County school, accepted by a college or university with active music participation.

The selection process included a closed audition on March 26 at Salem Lutheran Church in Lebanon. Candidates were required to audition on one instrument, including voice, on a competitive piece. The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s school of acceptance.

Medzoyan will be attending Barnard College of Columbia University in Manhattan.

In April 2022, Medzoyan was recognized on the floor of the Pennsylvania State Senate by state Senator Chris Gebhard (R-48) for her academic and musical accomplishments. Gebhard commended her as an “outstanding student” and member of the National Honor Society and the high school United Nations Club.

Medzoyan has received the Cedar Crest High School Booster Club Certificate of Academic Merit and the Woodmen American History Award.

Aside from being a standout student, Medzoyan spends her time tutoring fellow students, volunteering at the Lebanon Bicycle Recycle program, and practicing clarinet, piano, and dance.
