The Annville Free Library is lacing up for its 7th annual Book It 5K Fun Run/Walk, set to kick off at 8:00 a.m. on June 10 at the Annville-Cleona High School parking lot.
This popular event, paused in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coincides with the town’s Historic Old Annville Day celebration.
While the race traditionally winds its way around the school campus into Quittie Park, construction on the secondary school stadium has prompted a slight course change this year. Nevertheless, participants can look forward to the same off-road experience. Volunteers will staff a water station along the route and help direct runners to stay on course.
Ten age groups are featured in the event, with prizes awarded to the top male and female runners in each category. Additional prizes will be given to the top two overall male and female runners.
Before the race, participants can enjoy music provided by Aaron Ohlinger to get their blood pumping. Runners will receive Dri-fit T-shirts and, after crossing the finish line, can enjoy Italian ice, watermelon, soft pretzels, and water.
The event, with chip timing by Falcon Race Timing, is not just for competitive runners. It’s a family affair, and young runners are particularly encouraged to participate.
Funds raised from the event will go entirely towards the Annville Free Library, a 501(c)3 organization, to support books and programs. Typically, around 120 runners participate in this event, but organizers are hoping for a larger turnout this year.
Adult registration costs $25 through May 30, increasing to $30 thereafter. The fee for children aged 11 and under is set at $15. Participants can sign up online through the library’s website, annville.lclibs.org, or at www.falconracetiming.com. Alternatively, race forms can be picked up at the Annville Free Library.
Major event sponsors include BlueScope Buildings and UPMC. For more information, visit the library’s website or call (717) 867-1802.
