Aaron “AJ” Sweitzer has been named fire chief for the City of Lebanon.
Lebanon mayor Sherry Capello announced the appointment on Tuesday, June 6. It follows a two-month period of Sweitzer serving as acting chief after the abrupt retirement of former fire chief Duane Trautman.

“The job of a fire chief is a tough one that continually challenges anyone sitting in that seat to exhibit skills in multiple areas – not just firefighting skills, but administrative and communication skills as well,” said Mayor Capello in a press release. “Chief Sweitzer possesses the appropriate combination of education, on-the-job experience, and credentials that will provide him every opportunity for success.”
Capello said she believes this change in leadership will be a smooth transition for the department, and credited Sweitzer’s first-hand knowledge of department administration from serving as deputy fire chief for the past two years. Sweitzer began his career with the Lebanon department as a volunteer firefighter four years ago.
In a press release, Sweitzer said he was “incredibly honored and humbled to accept the position.”
“The role of a fire chief extends beyond managing emergencies and ensuring the efficient functioning of our fire department; it involves fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvements,” said Sweitzer.
Sweitzer said he was eager to collaborate with fire department personnel and city officials to protect and serve the Lebanon community.
