Scott Buchle, a long-standing contributor to Lebanon County emergency medical services, was honored Wednesday, May 31, with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Lebanon County Ambulance Association. The accolade was conferred at a celebratory luncheon held at Funck’s Restaurant in Palmyra.
The Lebanon County Ambulance Association regularly acknowledges individuals who have made enduring contributions to Lebanon County’s emergency medical services (EMS) over their careers. Buchle currently serves as director for Penn State Health Life Lion.
Buchle’s career in emergency services began in 1987, starting out as a volunteer junior firefighter and first responder in Dauphin County. From there, his path progressed as he took on the roles of EMT and, later, a paramedic, dedicating most of his clinical service to the citizens of Lebanon and Dauphin counties, with additional experience in Cumberland and Lancaster counties.
In addition to his hands-on experience, Buchle holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Penn College and a master’s degree in health care administration from Penn State University, conferred in 2013.
Buchle’s administrative prowess was showcased during his nine-year tenure as operations manager for South Central EMS, providing service to parts of Lebanon County from 2002 through 2011. Thereafter, he took up the mantle as program manager of Life Lion EMS at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
In 2020, he ascended to his current position as director. Buchle also served several years as the vice chair for both the Lebanon County and Dauphin County EMS Councils, and has been an active member of the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council and several municipal public safety boards.
Outside of active duty, Buchle contributes to the advancement of EMS by co-authoring various research studies and imparting his knowledge to others through teaching at both the medical center and Harrisburg Area Community College.
A resident of the Palmyra area for the last 20 years, Buchle enjoys the support of his wife, Jill, a nurse practitioner at Penn State Health, and their two grown children, Meghan and Alex.
