Have you ever wanted to peek inside a Mount Gretna cottage?

The scores of cottages in the hills of Gretna are standing testament to the region’s past as a pleasure playground – a legacy that continues in part today.

Local residents and visitors alike can explore the architectural charm of Mount Gretna homes on a self-guided walking tour scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The tour provides an inside look at 10 unique Mount Gretna homes and three of the area’s historic structures. This year’s highlights include an artist’s studio, a property certified as a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, and the former Mount Gretna Inn.

Featuring a range of architecture from cozy weekend cottages to modern year-round residences, the tour showcases how homeowners have seamlessly melded modern living with the inherent charm of Mount Gretna’s woodside retreats.

The event, sponsored by Snitz Creek Cabinet Shop, donates all proceeds to Gretna Music, a nonprofit organization that has provided central Pennsylvania with world-class music at affordable prices for over four decades.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $20 through Gretna Music by calling 717-361-1508 or online for an additional service fee of $1.55 at www.gretnamusic.org. Starting July 17, tickets will also be available at all Stauffers of Kissel Hill locations and the Mount Gretna Visitor Information Center.

On the day of the event, tickets will be sold for $25 at the Mount Gretna Post Office on Princeton Avenue and in front of the Mount Gretna Playhouse at 200 Pennsylvania Ave.
