Coleman Memorial Park Trustees and Friends of Coleman Memorial Park invite the public to join them on Saturday, Dec. 9, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Lebanon Federal Credit Union Disc Golf Course at Coleman Park.

“The course was made possible entirely by private sponsors and built by volunteers over the past 12 months,” organizers said in a press release. “The 18-hole course is welcoming to championship-level golfers and amateurs alike.”

The opening ceremony will start Saturday at 10 a.m. in the main parking lot at Coleman Memorial Park, 1400 Maple St., Lebanon.

“This challenging course is in mostly wooded forest and follows the perimeter of the beautiful and historic 100-acre regional park with uniquely placed baskets, some hanging from trees and others on top of old ruins of the former Coleman-Dawson anthracite furnace,” the release notes. “The course is free to the public and is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk.”

Frisbee golf has grown in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic, when it was seen as a safe activity where people could gather.

Members of the Lebanon Valley Disc Golf Club, which was founded in the early 2000s, were asked by park trustees in 2022 to design a disc golf course for the park. A club rep told LebTown earlier this year that the championship course will consist of two baskets, one closer for intermediate players and one further for professional players. All players will throw the discs from a 5ร—12 cement tee pad.

Typically, the clubโ€™s disc golf season begins in mid-March, and players meet on Wednesdays until September at various courses in Lebanon County.
