Penn State Extension has scheduled its annual “Crop Conferences” in two formats next year: in person and online.
Crop Conferences are intended for people interested in current crop management issues. These events are designed for crop producers, pesticide license holders, and dairy, beef, poultry, and no-till farmers, and attendees can earn pesticide applicator, nutrient management, and certified crop adviser credits.
The information will be presented as both a daylong, in-person event and a two-afternoon virtual event.
The in-person seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Lebanon County Exposition Center and Fairgrounds at 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon. The virtual conference will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, and Thursday, March 14.
According to a press release from the extension office, sessions will cover:
- Comparing traditional soil testing, grid sampling, and zone sampling.
- Preparing for pesticide spills.
- Small grain silage best management practices.
- Reducing pesticide spray drift.
- Pre-sidedress Nitrate Test, GreenSeeker, and chlorophyll meter use in manure systems and options to test.
- Best practices to maintain fertility and remain in compliance with local and state nutrient management laws.
According to the release, the conference in Lebanon will offer six core and six category pesticide recertification credits as well as dicamba, paraquat and fumigation training.
At the virtual event, pesticide applicators can earn two category and two core pesticide education credits. To meet compliance for licensure, applicators must attend two core and two category sessions, organizers noted.
The conferences also will offer opportunities to earn certified crop adviser and nutrient management credits. Organizers noted that credits are pending final approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture or the Pennsylvania Certified Crop Adviser Program.
There is a $10 registration fee for each event. Space is limited, so preregistration is recommended.
Attendees must register for the Lebanon conference by 11:59 p.m. Feb. 5. The registration deadline for the live webinars is 1 p.m. Mar. 12.
More information about the conferences is available online at extension.psu.edu/crops-con.
