A new event, World Migratory Bird Day, will be held at the Middle Creek Visitor Center on Saturday, May 11.
Formerly known as International Migratory Bird Day, the annual event highlights the migration patterns of birds and the threats they face.
According to the spring 2024 newsletter, Middle Creek in Motion, World Migratory Bird Day is an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of protecting bird habitat and the challenges that they face. It also provides a platform to showcase the amazing journey of birds across the globe.
Middle Creek is home to a variety of bird species that migrate twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. Organizers are hoping to include educational and conservation groups who can promote bird conservation, such as local birding groups, research institutions, conservation organizations, and native plant landscapers.
The event is free and open to all ages. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. around the Visitor Center. For more information closer to the event, visit the Middle Creek Visitor Center Facebook page.
If successful, the event could join other annual wildlife events at Middle Creek such as the Wildlife Art Show, National Hunting and Fishing Day, and the Wild Goose Chase.
