Library Director

As the Library Director, you will be the leader of our library services, responsible for overseeing the operations and management of the library.

The Annville Free Library Board of Directors is searching for an enthusiastic director to lead the library in its mission to enrich the community by empowering curiosity, enhancing creativity, and fostering connections while providing equal access to all.

As the Library Director, you will be the leader of our library services, responsible for overseeing the operations and management of the library. Your passion for information, innovation, creativity, and community engagement will guide your work in supporting our quest to provide the best library service possible in our new, expanded facility.

Responsibilities and Duties:

As Director, you will:

  • Manage operations of the library, such as collection management, budget monitoring, and staff scheduling.
  • Lead and encourage staff efforts to develop innovative Library programming and increase community outreach
  • Recruit, train, and mentor 6 library staff members.
  • Ensure excellent public service, patron relations, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Library Board to fulfill the mission, vision, and strategy of the Library.
  • Engage and support annual and long-term fundraising activities.
  • Plan and schedule adult programming and administer library technology.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports for the Library Board and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

Job Requirements:

A Masters in Library Science preferred; an undergraduate degree a must. Willingness to obtain Public Library Certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working in a library or other relevant supervisory experience in education, business, or non-profits.
  • Progressive management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of library operations, systems, and services.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in current and emerging technologies.
  • The ability to develop, advocate for, and implement forward-looking library strategies.

Background Checks Required:

FBI and PA Criminal Background Checks and PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

About Us:

The Annville Free Library, located in south central Pennsylvania, began in 1939 as a children’s summer lending library in a town gift shop and has since expanded to serve a population of more than 12,000 in four municipalities in Lebanon County. The library is a member of the Lebanon County Library System and the Lebanon County Library District.

The Library continues to enjoy close connections with and support from its communities. We recently completed a seven-year planned project of building expansion by raising $4.5 million in a capital campaign that funded new construction, the creative reuse of an acquired adjoining building, and renovations within the 1950 original building. Today the Library melds tradition and innovation within an accessible facility, and we seek a director who will nurture and continue to improve this valued community resource.

Job Type: Full time, 40 hours per week.

Salary: Starting between $42,000 and $47,000, commensurate with experience.

Benefits: A flexible, reimbursable monthly payment for either health insurance or a retirement plan. Maximum of $5,000 a year ($416.66 per month) beginning after 30 days of contract start date.

Starting Date: To be determined based on candidate availability and as soon as July 1, 2024.

Supervision: The Director reports to the AFL Board of Directors and supervises a staff of six.
