On Thursday, June 20, Schott opened the doors of its facilities to about 40 participants of its Educator Industry Tour.
The Educator Industry Tours are made possible through a collaboration between the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13, the Lancaster County Workforce Board, and Career Ready Lancaster.
In 2024, the South Central PA Workforce Investment Board (SCPa Works) joined the collaboration. This enabled educators to tour workplaces in Lebanon and Lancaster counties, bridging the gap between the neighboring counties and their workplaces.
The purpose of Educator Industry Tours is to better equip educators in Lebanon and Lancaster counties to prepare their students for their future careers.
As part of the tours, workplaces like Schott welcome educators to gain a deeper understanding of career opportunities, workplace contributions to their respective industries, and the nuances of the area’s workforce.
Schott, an active participant in the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce, was assisted by the chamber in the planning of the tour at the request of the SCPa Works.
“We are thrilled to support the Educator Industry Tours and provide a platform for educators to explore the vast career opportunities within Lebanon County,” said Diane Harlow, director of workforce and education at Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce. “By bringing together educators and industry leaders, we hope to cultivate a better understanding of the skills and knowledge required in today’s workforce, thereby enhancing the educational experience for our students.”
The June 20 tour was the first opportunity for educators in districts in Lebanon and Lancaster counties to visit a workplace in Lebanon County through the program. Schott welcomed about 40 tourgoers, which included administrators from the Lancaster County Workforce Board, IU13, and the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce, as well as educators from districts in both counties.
The tour focused on businesses in the transportation, logistics, and healthcare industries in Lebanon County. Schott provided lunch as well as a comprehensive tour of its state-of-the-art facilities used to produce glass vials that safely store and administer injectable drugs for global patients.
“We are excited to welcome educators to our facility and provide them with a closer look at our operations,” said Kurt Johnson, human resources manager at Schott. “By sharing our processes and career opportunities, we hope to inspire educators and, in turn, their students to consider the diverse and rewarding careers available in manufacturing and other industries here in Lebanon County.”
