Artificial turf is coming to the remaining dirt infields at Palmyra’s In The Net during the offseason.

Fields two through six will be worked on starting in November, and they should be ready to host practices and tournaments again in Spring 2025, according to In The Net operations manager Brad Frye.

With the renovations taking place during winter months, play will not be affected.

Frye said with some teams coming from all over the Midatlantic and Northeast regions — and some from as far as Canada — the turf fields will be better at keeping games on schedule. They should eliminate about 95% of rainout situations.

“Teams spend a lot of money to come to the area in their lodging, their traveling, their eating out at restaurants and local stores,” Frye said. “We should drastically reduce any possibility of having to cancel due to inclement weather.”

The A-Turf RS Premier artificial turf system will also make the game more consistent. Players will not have to anticipate unexpected bounces that might come with an uneven playing field.

Frye said teams now have a higher level of competition and are looking for turf surfaces, so In The Net is trying to keep up with the demand.

And he said he has gotten “good positive feedback” from both local and travel teams.

“Tournament organizations that we work with that utilize our facility are very excited,” Frye said. “They feel it’s going to grow their events as well.”

Frye declined to share the cost of the 87,000-square-foot project.

According to a press release announcing the construction, In The Net will host more than 1,000 teams that will play more than 1,800 games and 300 practices in 2025.
