The Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts is back this summer with a series of fun and educational activities for children and community members.

The first week of the 2024 Mosaic Mural Camp ran this past week, with development and training sessions held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day. The second week of the camp will run from July 29 to Aug. 5, with installation sessions held from 5-8 p.m. each day.

The theme for this year’s project is celebrating the past, present, and future of the playground. Participants, ages 13-18, will help local artists, Autumn Krouse and Aurelis Figueroa, plan and install a mosaic mural at Hilltop Playground, 801 N. 6th St., Lebanon. Community members, friends, and family members are encouraged to help with the installation next week.

For more information about the free annual camp led by Sharon Zook, secretary of LVCA, email lebanonartscouncil@gmail.com.

This project is made possible through a partnership with Hilltop Playground Association and by funding from Arts for All Partnerships through The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, Kiwanis Club, Mount Gretna United Methodist Drendall Foundation, Sandy Hollow Arts, SHARE, Recreation for the Environment, and Thrivent Financial.

In addition to the event sponsors, LVCA received a $5,000 grant through the PA Council on the Arts to support its operations in 2024. The organization, which does not employ any staff members and is managed and overseen entirely by its board members, is using part of the grant, along with donations and memberships, to support its summer activities.

The Lebanon Valley Conservancy and krb ceramics are also offering a Nature and Art Camp for children in 4th and 5th grades.

The hands-on, nature-focused art camp will run from Aug. 6-8, starting at 10 a.m. and wrapping up around 11:30 a.m. each day, at krb ceramic studio, 278 Northwood Dr., Lebanon.

The registration fee is $65, and space is limited, so parents of interested little artists should register online at www.krbceramics.com/nature-art-camp. The reduced registration fee for this camp is made possible by a grant from SHARE, Recreation for the Environment, and Sandy Hollow Arts.

For more information about the second annual camp led by Karen Beale, owner of krb ceramics, email Courtney Reimann, secretary of LVCA, at courtney.reimann@tlvc.org.
