The Annville Township Police Department has officially ceased to exist.

Township commissioners made several routine approvals at its September meeting and heard community updates. Commissioners also unanimously passed a motion to proceed with an ordinance that officially disbands the township police force.

In May, the Annville Township and Palmyra Borough police departments merged to form the Western Lebanon County Regional Police Department. The regional department is the first of its kind in Lebanon County.

Since the merger, township commissioners and residents have noticed an increase in police surveillance. Commissioner Anthony Perrotto commended the heightened police presence in Annville Township.

The Western Lebanon County Regional Police Department is headquartered at 325 S. Railroad St. in Palmyra.

Perrotto also presented a motion to address trespassing concerns at the entrance of the Quittie Creek Nature Park. To solve the issue of visitors crossing through private property, commissioners unanimously passed a motion to approve the placement of a sign at South Weaber Street and Willow Drive directing traffic to the appropriate park entrance.

In other news, Marty Brandt, president of the Annville Free Library Board of Directors, introduced Dylan Fye as the new Annville Free Library director. Brandt also reported that the library renovation is complete.

Commissioner Nevin Hoover reported that the first phase of the Annville Town Hall renovation is underway. Hoover said the work is set to be completed by the election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Annville Township manager and code enforcement officer Candie Johnson reported that 48 permits have been issued so far in 2024.

In other news, the board unanimously approved:

  • A stormwater and management operations and maintenance agreement for the Livingwater Properties LLC storage unit project at 475 N. Weaber St.
  • The appointment of Andrew J. Race as solicitor of the Annville Township Zoning Hearing Board.
  • The 2025 budget preparation and adoption schedule.
  • A deed of dedication and easements for Locust Street.
  • A paving project for Liberty and Killinger streets.
  • A handicap parking space at 50 N. Chestnut St.
  • Allowing fire police to assist with Lebanon Valley College football games on Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 2 and Nov. 16.
  • The August regular meeting minutes, reports of standing and special committees and payment of township bills.

The Board of Commissioners of Annville Township meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in the township building at 36 N. Lancaster St. and are open to the public. Next month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
