WITF is hosting a series of art workshops throughout Central Pennsylvania, including one in Lebanon, to explore Leonardo da Vinci’s lasting impact as an artist, inventor, and innovator.

The series ties into the impending release of Ken Burns’ two-part documentary on the Renaissance man in November. The film by Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon premieres on WITF-TV and the PBS app at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 and 19.

The local event, titled โ€œBringing da Vinci to Life,โ€ will be held at Lebanon County Council on the Arts, at 770 Cumberland St., from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, and will be led by local artist, author, and muralist Katie Trainer.

According to a press release, Trainer “will engage participants in learning about Leonardo da Vinciโ€™s use of sacred geometry to transform simple shapes into masterpieces. Hands on activities will focus on seeing patterns in nature and the human form and then bringing these discoveries to life with sketching and painting.”

Trainer explained in the release that she will offer โ€œartistic prompts and we will share ideas, so that everyone can create something unique with undertones of structural design based on some of Da Vinci’s sketches.โ€

Trainerโ€™s murals can be seen throughout Pennsylvania, with recent projects including the Reading Liederkranz and the George and Hettie Love Memorial Library in Harrisburg.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to support this art workshop for the Lebanon community and look forward to working with Katie Trainer as she brings so much enthusiasm and knowledge to her workshops,โ€ LVCAโ€™s Courtney Reimann said in the release.

The workshop is available at no cost to adults 18 or older, with an emphasis on a stress-free learning environment, and no previous artistic experience needed. Seating is limited, and registration is available online.

LVCA is a nonprofit, community-based art center with a mission to promote the arts in Lebanon County. According to the release, LVCA was invited to participate in WITFโ€™s โ€œBringing da Vinci to Lifeโ€ workshop series by Jackie Ford, the Capital Area Intermediate Unit’s Arts in Education partner manager, and Beth Cappello, project manager at WITF. โ€œBringing da Vinci to Lifeโ€ is a series of hands-on workshops presented by WITF and led by local artists that celebrate da Vinci’s legacy while inspiring an appreciation for the arts in the community.

โ€œBringing da Vinci to Lifeโ€ culminates on Nov. 2 at the WITF Public Media Center, with a free community exhibit and preview screening of the Burns documentary.
