With the weather cooling down and the days getting shorter, Middle Creek once again has scheduled several activities for new and experienced hunters.

A mentored squirrel hunt took place on Sept. 14, when 10 new squirrel hunters were given a chance to learn how to safely hunt, scout, and clean and cook game in company with an experienced hunter. The program is designed for novice hunters who would like to learn from a mentor.

Also, 45 lucky hunters were recently selected by raffle for Middle Creek’s annual archery deer hunt. Last year, hunters harvested 10 large, healthy deer over a three-week period. The hunt this year begins in October.

The application period for goose blinds ended Aug. 28, and the selected hunters will take to the blinds on Nov. 23. Anyone who did not get selected during the pre-season can still take advantage of the duck blinds and no-show goose blinds, which are available throughout the waterfowl hunting season beginning on Nov. 23. Visit the Middle Creek webpage for more information on how to apply for no-show blinds and duck blinds. Hunting days are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

A youth waterfowl hunt day will be held on Nov. 9.

Middle Creek noted in its fall newsletter that this is the 50th anniversary of waterfowl hunting at Middle Creek.

The flintlock/archery deer hunt is scheduled for Dec. 18, and applications will be accepted until Oct. 25 on huntfish.pa.gov. Last year, nearly 25% of participating hunters successfully harvested a deer.

Applications for hunting opportunities at Middle Creek can be submitted free of charge at huntfish.pa.gov during the summer preseason. Anyone who missed out this year is invited to try again next summer when licenses go on sale.

Please visit the Middle Creek webpage for more information or feel free to call the visitor center at 717-733-1512.
