The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that repairs will begin on a section of Route 72 (Ebenezer Road) near Swatara State Park.

The work, conducted by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc., is set to start Friday, October 4, and is expected to be completed by November 1, 2024.

Weather permitting, the repairs will occur on weekdays during daylight hours after 7:30 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and minor delays are anticipated. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through the work zone.

This project extends the original contract work, which included ramp work, base repair, milling and overlay, guide rail replacement, and drainage improvements on Fisher Avenue, as well as portions of Route 72 and Lickdale Road (Route 1020).

The Fisher Avenue exits on Interstate 81 were briefly closed earlier this summer for a previous phase of the project.

Due to shoulder washouts and pavement deterioration, the project limits have been extended approximately 2.5 miles to the beginning of Swatara State Park.

The total cost of the project is $2,294,134. PennDOT urges drivers to stay alert and patient as these necessary improvements are made.
