Halloween is barely over, and yet it’s time to kick off the holiday season in downtown Lebanon.
Festivities are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, with a tree-lighting ceremony at 9th and Cumberland streets. The annual event will be hosted by the Community of Lebanon Association.
Last year, the event drew more than 100 locals to the Farmers Market parking lot, where they were entertained by a brass band and a visit by Mrs. Claus.
Next, the 48th annual Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, beginning at 10 a.m. in the downtown area. This year, the theme is “The Year of the Candy Cane.”
Registration is open for participants in the parade and can be found online. First- and second-place awards will be given out in the form of cash prizes for best float, top dance group, top walking group, best in theme, and best decorated emergency vehicle. Parade notes, including specific rules for participants, are also available online. Organizers said that the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will also be making an appearance in this year’s parade.
Any individuals or organizations interested in volunteering to help with the parade are asked to send an email to organizers at cla@lebanoncla.com. Sponsors can also sign up online.
Finally, the CLA will offer festive horse-drawn carriage rides through the heart of downtown Lebanon on Fridays, Dec. 6 and 13.
Rides depart from the Beers + Hoffman location inside the Lebanon Farmers Market, at 31 S. 8th St., starting at 5 p.m. The final carriage leaves at 7:30 p.m.
Each carriage holds 10 to 15 people.
Tickets are available online. Advance purchases are encouraged, since organizers say the rides sell out every year.
