It is always good to reflect at this particular time of the year, take a breath, and consider why we exist. At the top of the list are two simple words: to serve.
We are thankful that more than 55 years ago, our founders had the foresight to realize there was a desperate need for someone to provide safe, comfortable, affordable housing for Lebanon County’s aging and disabled population. We recruited over twenty like-minded community organizations that shared our mindset and did something about it. This resulted in the opening of our first property, Willow Terrace, in 1972.
We are thankful that the market has grown, and we have grown with it. There are now multiple buildings throughout Lebanon County that house almost 300 residents, each thankful they have a roof over their heads and live independently while bonded in a community environment that forges friendships in a true spirit of community spirit.
We are thankful for a broader mindset. Recognizing that more people, like the homeless and needy families, need the same care and attention, our newest venture, the Canal Affordable Housing Project, with eight handicap-friendly units, is occupied. Fifteen more similar units are on the drawing board for future residents to be served. We are confident that the compassionate individuals and businesses that work and live here will do their share to make this dream come true.
We are thankful for our dynamic and hardworking board of Directors. There are no “rubber stamps” here. These people all have an involved “Roll up your sleeves” attitude and blend their complementary skills to translate our core values into action plans that make Community Homes of Lebanon County what it is today.
