The East Hanover Township Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to pass the drafted 2025 budget at its monthly meeting Dec. 30.

The board also unanimously agreed to pass a resolution fixing the tax rate, remaining the same from last year.

While supervisors normally meet the fourth Monday of the month, the December meeting was set a week later on account of the holiday season.

The board also unanimously agreed to approve several waivers for the proposed Kreider Farms development, as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The 36 Pleasant View Road development, planned to serve as an egg farm with layer houses, manure buildings, an egg processing site, and cooler/storage, as well as various stormwater improvements, has come under fire from neighbors.

In order to receive state approval for the plan, developers need to widen part of Pleasant View Road, which requires approval from neighbors.

Several neighbors allege that developers came to their homes attempting to get them to sign away legal rights to part of their front yards with no financial compensation.

Supervisors have said they were aware that the developer would need part of residents’ front yards for the street-widening, but that they were under the impression that Kreider Farms was offering financial compensation for the property.

Supervisors have said that they do not plan to exercise eminent domain powers on adjacent landowners.

The board approved five waivers at their December meeting, with four being routine waivers concerning the application, scaling, and BMP worksheets.

The last waiver waives certain stormwater runoff control criteria, pending the approval of all affected neighboring properties.

A neighbor in attendance asked if this waiver would apply if any or all neighbors do not sign off, and supervisors said it would not.

In other news, the board:

  • Unanimously agreed to amend the township’s non-uniformed pension plan to increase contributions from 9 to 11 percent, with township manager Erik Harmon noting that “we’re not currently taking advantage of all the money available” from the state.
  • Unanimously agreed to increase the rate of pay for auditors to $18, noting that the position is only one night a year, and that they are currently seeking someone to fill it for 2025.
  • Unanimously agreed to ratify the purchase of Christmas hams for $535.43.
  • Unanimously agreed to pay closing costs for 674 Pine Road.
  • Unanimously agreed to advertise for bids for the 2025 paving project.

  • Unanimously agreed to give Niccole Rice viewing permissions for the JBT Park Checking Account.
