With a new Dairy Road Pump Station under contract for construction, the North Cornwall Board of Supervisors was tasked Tuesday with selecting sewage rates from a recently conducted study.

Supervisors selected between two options spreading cost differently between consumers. Current rates set use for an average homeowner (using 15,000 gallons per quarter with 5/8″ meter) at $20.43 and use for the average large consumer (using 300,000 gallons per quarter with 2″ meter) at $675.03.
With option 1, all consumers would pay $1.75 per 1,000 gallons, with estimated cost for the average homeowner at $32.75 and the estimated cost for the average large consumer at $571.44.
Option 2, similar to current rates, sets the consumption fee at $1.05 per 1,000 gallons for the first 150,000 gallons, upping to $3.37 per 1,000 gallons for the next 150.000 gallons. This option estimates a cost of $22.25 for homeowners and $709.44 for large consumers.
Supervisors unanimously agreed to proceed with option 2, directing the solicitor to draft a resolution.
Board president Mike Wahmann said that “option one is making all residents pay for the high water users.”
He said many homeowners have limited income and would be burdened by a high increase in rate, while large consumers can “much more readily afford that 5 percent increase.”
Township manager Justin Thompson noted that the township’s sewer costs, with Dairy Road Pump Station providing service to North Cornwall, Cornwall, West Cornwall, and Cleona, still fall significantly below what those in other municipalities may expect.
“Our rate is still tremendously cheap,” said Thompson.
North Cornwall Township First Responders and Community Appreciation Day
The North Cornwall Township Recreation Board has begun preparation for a First Responders and Community Appreciation Day event at Gloninger Woods Park Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rec Board member and former township manager Tom Long said the board has been in contact with the Lebanon County Regional Police Department and Neversink Fire Company to set up at the event.

Long said the board is looking for exhibitors and vendors for the event, including participants for a car show, food trucks, and local arts and craft vendors. If interested, contact him at tjlongsr@hotmail.com.
A flier distributed Tuesday notes that there are no registration fees or charge for event spaces.
Long said the plan stemmed from plans to hold an opening event for the park when it first opened, which were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If the event is successful, he said, the board hopes to hold similar events annually.
