The Caring Cupboard, a nonprofit organization with locations in Palmyra and Jonestown dedicated to providing food and other essential services to people in need, has announced the appointment of David Fitzkee as its new executive director.

“With an exceptional background in nonprofit leadership, a proven track record of success, and an unwavering commitment to community service, Fitzkee is poised to lead The Caring Cupboard into its next chapter of growth and impact,” the organization said in a press release.

Fitzkee has nearly 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, and his leadership has been instrumental in driving both organizational development and the successful implementation of vital community-based initiatives, the release said. According to the statement, he is known “for his ability to inspire teams, secure critical funding, and build lasting partnerships,” and his “vision and passion for helping others align perfectly with The Caring Cupboard’s mission to fight food insecurity and create lasting change in Lebanon County.”

He replaces Shila Ulrich, who had been The Caring Cupboard’s executive director since October 2015. She announced her resignation in November after accepting the position of president of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

“I am honored to join The Caring Cupboard, an organization that has made such a profound impact in our communities,” Fitzkee said in the release. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters to ensure we continue meeting the growing needs of our friends and neighbors and expand the reach of our programs. Together, I look forward to creating positive and lasting change in the communities we serve.”

Terry Lewis, who serves as chair of The Caring Cupboard board, said Fitzkee’s leadership “is exactly what The Caring Cupboard needs to continue our important work. His extensive experience, coupled with his deep-rooted dedication to service, will undoubtedly help us enhance our programs and ensure we are meeting the needs of those who rely on us most.

“We are confident that under Dave’s guidance, The Caring Cupboard will thrive and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community members.”

According to the release, Fitzkee’s appointment “comes at a time when the demand for services provided by The Caring Cupboard has never been greater, and as the organization embarks on the construction of a new home for its Palmyra operations. His focus on sustainability, strategic growth, and community engagement, along with his background in construction management, will position the organization to not only meet the increased demand but to excel in its mission to expand its support to those in need.”

The Caring Cupboard is a choice food pantry primarily serving residents in the Palmyra, Annville-Cleona, and Northern Lebanon School Districts. Visit The Caring Cupboard online for more information or to learn how to get involved.
